Our story

You can't postpartum yourself. It takes a village.

I'm Leila, a mum of five (including two sets of twins), a postpartum doula, holistic nutrition consultant and the founder of Village for Mama.

Every one of my postpartum experiences looked different. But they all taught me the same thing: every mother deserves a supported and nourished fourth trimester, and a softer landing into motherhood.

How it began

The birth of Village for Mama

Village for Mama emerged from a profound realisation: the postpartum period, or more importantly the fourth trimester, is a critical yet under-recognised time in a mother's journey.

My insight into the need for better postpartum support was shaped by my own experience as a first-time mother. Then, while driving to the gym, I heard a podcast interview with Dr Oscar Serrallach, whose insights into postpartum care struck a deep chord. That moment ignited a spark that grew into a passionate commitment to support other mothers.

I gathered my village of local women and mothers, and together we turned that idea into something uniquely ours. Village for Mama became more than a cookbook: it was the first of its kind to include recipe gift cards, a tangible way for loved ones to offer practical support to new mothers.

  4. Twins

Then came twins, and a whole new understanding of why every mother needs a village.

  5. Twins, again

Our second set of twins arrived on Christmas Day: one at home, and one in hospital over the border.
