Why Postpartum Support Matters

For generations, postpartum was a time when mothers were held by their community. They had people cooking for them, supporting them, and reminding them to rest, recover, and simply be with their baby.

But today, mother’s experience postpartum alone.

Mothers are sent home from hospital within 24–48 hours, expected to heal while running a household, and are told they need to “bounce back” as soon as possible. Many don’t even realise how much support is available to them—or they struggle to find the right people.

This is where Village for Mama wants to change everything.

This isn’t just about connecting you with services—it’s about reshaping how we view postpartum care. It’s about making sure that mothers are as supported as their babies. It’s about normalising the gathering of a village. A personal village, a professional village and a community village.

Endorsed by Village for Mama

The Village for Postpartum Directory was created to make it easier for mothers to find trusted, high-quality postpartum support. While I don’t believe in gatekeeping postpartum care, it’s impossible for me to personally vouch for every practitioner listed—so I’ve created the Endorsed by Village for Mama distinction to highlight professionals I have personally worked with, been supported by, or built a direct relationship with over time.

That’s not to say that other practitioners on the directory aren’t incredible at what they do—I just haven’t had firsthand experience with all of them yet. To help mothers make informed choices, every directory listing includes space for practitioners to share their certifications and qualifications, as well as client testimonials, so you can see their background and hear from others who have worked with them.

I’m currently exploring ways to expand the Endorsed by Village for Mama process so more practitioners can apply for this distinction in the future. My goal is to create a rigorous yet accessible system to ensure even more mothers can confidently find and connect with the right postpartum support. Stay tuned as I continue to develop this.
